Full Version: Vtmonitor Application

Hi,

Sometimes, I have problems with my VTtrader connection, due to different causes:
• ISP (Internet Service Provider),
• local net (wireless…),
• Broker,
• others: hardware failure...

At the end, I think that more important than to know who or what is the responsible
of the problem is to know, as soon as possible, that a problem happened in order to
solve it.

When a problem with connection occurs VTtrader could stop Auto-Trade Mode of
our Trading System. In this case, VTMonitor will notice us by means of the alarm
type that we have configured. Then, we can take the actions to solve the problem.

VTMonitor
=======
VTMonitor is a little application to monitor VTtrader software. It is compatible
with VTtrader 1.8.x. I have tested under Windows XP SP2 with VTtrader 1.8.0, 1.8.3
and 1.8.5.

I think VTMonitor can be useful for VTtrader users, particularly for users that
execute Trading Systems in Auto-Trade Mode without supervision.

This is VTMonitor 0.7.0.12 (03/05/2007). It is a *beta* version, so use at *your own risk*.

In order to install follow instructions included in the zip file.

The main function of this application is to detect when an Trading System
in Auto-Trade mode has been stopped. Available alerts are: screen messages,
sounds and email (non-secure POP3 servers).

I have upload a minimal version, so maybe you need some additional system files.
In this case, report me and I will upload them.

Feel free to report questions, bugs and new functionality suggestions.

Best regards.

Hello Smartman,

I live in northern Canada where a consistant Internet connection isn't always a sure thing. I tried out your program and I really like it. Do you plan on including an auto-dialer feature in the future. In the event of an extended period of internet down time and me away from my computer, getting a call on my cell phone with a pre-recorded WAV file would be a great feature.

Just a thought.

Hello Lubifier,

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad it is usefull for you.

A "SMS alert" is planned although no date to be released. I think
this feature will solve your problem.

Regards.

Hi Smartman

I'm on Win2000 with VT V 1.8.5.1 with wireless network and is running well.
Could you add text log so that we can debug after a severe event occured.

Thanks for your tool - keep it going.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for your feedback.

I am not sure what are you referring to. If you mean that
VTMonitor tell you the cause of the problem like:
"Trading stopped due to: wireless interference"
"Trading stopped due to: ISP provider"
"Trading stopped due to: Broker server"

This is not possible. VTMonitor only can detect that
trading system was stopped but can not determine the
cause.

If this is not what are you meaning, please be more specific.

Regards,
José.

Hello again,

I just figured out how to send an email text message to my cell phone. I don't know if all cell phone companies offer a direct email to text portal, but apparently Bell does. I now have VT Monitor set to email my cell phone in the event of a disconnect. Thanks for a great little program!

Hello Lubifier,

Thank you for your feedback.

Yes I think many cell phone companies offers "push email", so is
another great option. For this option, I think the most important
restriction is that VTMonitor do not support secure SMTP (like gmail).

Also, I had some problems with some non secure email server, so for
the users interested in this option my advice is to test it.

Regards.
