Mostly love the program! I'm presently evaluating 3 different forex software charting packages/trading platforms.

VT is the best, except for 2 significant things:

1) I'm not allowed to mention the main problem, as instructed in the rules when I joined the forum.

2) Lack of backtesting and optimization of systems!

It's great to be able to create and automate systems, but it's much less useful when you can't backtest them to get a feel for how worthwhile/trustworthy they are!

How soon could we expect this level of customization?

Addressing the above 2 weaknesses will most likely make the difference between my deciding to use VT, or another platform.

Regards,

Jim

Hello,

Thank you for your suggestion. I have passed it along for consideration.

Regarding (2), you can essentially test the trading systems out without risking any money if you run them on the Demo server, instead of the Live Trading server.

Yes but that doesn't provide detailed info. regarding av win/av loss, total profitability, max drawdown, etc.

I don't want to have to calculate that manually for every single trade that a given system triggers!

It might, in theory, be possible to write such an evaluation into one of the indicators. If you create an indicator which uses the same parameters that the trading system uses to determine its "buy" and "sell" outputs, you could compare the actual price changes in the currency pair to the predicted fluctuations (which would be reflected in the "buy" and "sell" outputs). Then, you could plot a curve which would reflect the effeciency of the trading system's decisions. If this indicator were then written into the trading system itself, you could have a running plot, which could then also be used to make the trading system more effective. For example, if the plot reveals that the trading system is less effective under a certain condition in the market (which would be indicated in the plot as it drops below some predifined value), then the trading system could be progremmed to buy, sell, hold its course, or whatever.

Of course, this doesn't give any exact numbers for profitability etc. (since that would require some input for the actual funds being traded), but it is a start, in that it would give a sense of how well the trading system adapts to the market.

It would be nice if VT added a feature that does this kind of test on a trading system when it runs in the demo mode, which would also factor in the actual gains and losses that are incurred. Until they do, though, it might be possible to at least get a vague sense of the trading system's performance through some sort of internally-written indicator.
